Who Are you?
We're all a little bit different than the person next to us. And while we might look like our moms, sisters, grandmas, or even our twin, we are all individuals with a unique personality and set of gifts. Often enough, it can be easy to become transparent and almost invisible in this crazy world. It's become quiet obvious to me that this world we live in is lacking in individuality and has a serious case of Identity Crisis.
What to do! Struggling day after day with being faithful to ourselves, especially the person God created us to be, can be exhausting. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there; you're always having to fight for what you want, to be heard, noticed, even understood. And it's not all that easy avoiding the cookie-cutter style of living that typically results in conformity and the inability to think for one's self.
Talk about major pressure-to become like everyone else. Ironic! We are so caught up in trying to be like everyone else (which doesn't allow us to be individuals), that we loose sight of the big picture: God created us to be ourselves, not someone we were never meant to be. God doesn't care if we have beach blond hair, clear skin, toned thighs, a noticeable waist line, or a firm butt. All He cares about is the heart of the person. To Him we are striking, breathtaking, jaw-dropping gorgeous! Why wouldn't we be? In our own rights we are, because that's how He sees us.
While we see ourselves as a waste basket full of imperfections, He sees us as a pocket full of rocks waiting to be polished and defined. Questioning who you are seems to be the norm for most of us; even those who seem totally secure lack confidence as well and still search for the answers. The truth is, the answer to our questions about the mysterious realm that revolves around us is simple: God made you for a specific reason to do something greater than you could ever imagine. If you settle for less than what God has planned for you by conforming to the world's standards and ideas, then you're selling yourself short.
Don't believe me? Take a look at these affirmations, then come back and tell me that you weren't made uniquely wonderful; that you weren't meant to be you because you don't like the newest fashions, latest music, or coolest movie starts. It's harder to accept the fact that you are beautiful simply because you're you, but it's true. Believe me, it's a wonderful experience on the other side of the fence. Sometimes, the grass is greener of the other side!
You cannot be separated from the love of God. (Romans 8:35)
You are a citizen of heaven. (Philippians 3:20)
You have not been given a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
You are born of God, and the evil one cannot harm you. (1 John 5:18)
You are hidden in Christ with God. (Colossians 3:3)
You are God's temple. (1 Corinthians 3:16)
You are the salt and light of the earth. (Matthew 5:13-14)
You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. (Philippians 4:13)
You are God's workmanship. (Ephesians 2:10)
Dang! That's quiet something. You're greater than you ever could have imagined. God says so Himself. Such beauty and uniqueness you have within you. Don't you think it's time to let your colors burst and show the world what a wonderful God you serve just by being yourself? Go ahead, let your hair down and shine!
